20 AMAZING Furniture Pieces (on a small budget) For Your First Home or Apartment
For Your Bedroom:
Bed Frame + Headboard
Mattress
Mattresses do not need to be expensive! I have used $300 mattresses before and work really well for me. I do recommend a mattress topper though. You will be sleeping in the clouds every night.
Bedside Table
Large Floor Mirror - MUST HAVE
Desk
Bookshelf
For Your Bathroom:
Bookshelf
For Your Living Space:
Sofa / Futon
Coffee Table
End Table
Large Rug
This one makes a big difference! Create a cozy feel and make your space appear large (~ 5x7) with a big rug. It's a good idea to go with a neutral rug to not bring too much attention to it. This one is great because it won't likely clash with your decor or furniture.
TV Stand
You need somewhere to put your TV. Consider a simple console that isn't overdone. This TV stand is a great piece because it's sleek and modern! It gives you nice storage and is really well priced too.
Storage / Organizer
This is a great cube organizer! I love this one because it has metal legs. You can put this in any room. This came in very useful in my previous apartments. You can even add cube storage bins to hide your items.
Floor Lamp
Floor lamps are often overlooked. A nice floor lamp will make your space cozy and you won't have to turn on the (often ugly) main ceiling lights. Put it next to your sofa or that awkward corner you don't know what to do with.
For Your Dining Space:
Dining Table
You can't have a dining room without a table. Many of them are expensive, but here's a good option for under $100! If you're short on space, consider a round table. They take up less space and can be attractive.
Dining Chairs
Don't forget your dining chairs. Dining chairs can be very expensive. You can save money by buying a set at a great discount. These Furmax chairs are pretty comfortable, attractive, and great for your wallet. These are sturdy and can follow you to your next home.
Credenza / Sideboard
Many people don't know what a credenza is. It's basically a sideboard or buffet cabinet. This can go in your dining space, or any room, to store your items. They are pretty pricey but you can find cheaper alternatives. This is my favorite type of furniture because a credenza is a great storage piece that gives you opportunities for decorating.
For Your Kitchen + Pantry:
Dinnerware Set
These are technically not furniture but you will need a new dinnerware set. In my last apartment move I chose to upgrade my mixed-matched plates for a new set. You eat on plates everyday so why not make your food beautiful with them.
Barstools
A lot of apartments have a counter space to put barstools. Many times these get used more than the dining table itself. These are what I prefer to spend a little more money on. I love the cognac (faux) leather.
Pantry / Extra Storage Cabinet
Many apartments lack pantry storage or don't have any altogether. A storage cabinet can help you help store your food and kitchen items. You don't need to spend a lot for a cabinet. If you have the means, buy one to clear space!
