Thrift stores are filled with lots of gems. On the other hand, they are filled with vintage pieces that are not the most attractive if you know what I mean. In this post, I'm going to share thrift store DIY home decor ideas to make any piece look like stone or expensive vintage decor!
The other day I was at the thrift store and came across this vintage ceramic sculpture. I saw the potential! In the eyes of many, this would be a hard pass but did you know we can make it look high-end? Well, let's give it a try lol. In either case, this was only $3. There is nothing to worry about if it doesn't work out.
Check out the video below to see how I transformed this figure into a vintage-looking sculpture - kind of like stone or something old with a patina. You can do this with any thrift store home decor item you find. All materials used are linked below. This particular piece leans more gray but it would also look nice in an off-white color.
HOW TO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE STONE:
SUPPLIES:
- Henry's Feather Finish or any cement skim coat
- Gorilla glue
- craft or acrylic paint (black, white, brown, green)
- scrap wood for the base
- table saw or jigsaw for the cutting base
