4 EASY STEPS FOR HANGING YOUR WINDOW TREATMENTS... CORRECTLY
1. Gather Your Tools and Materials
Materials You'll Need:
- curtains
- curtain rod & hardware
- ladder
- drill
- pencil
- level
- drywall anchors
2. Select The Correct Curtains + Hanging Rod
You want to start by choosing the types of curtains you want. There are SO MANY options out there and I don't think it matters. Just find ones you like and go with your style. Consider these questions when buying some: Do you want blackout? just for decor? textured? Get curtains that hang 2-4 inches off the ceiling and hang all the way to the floor.
I always use blinds, so my curtains are just for decor. Here are different mounting types.

3. Mount Curtain Rod + Hang Curtains
I have used many curtains and hanging rods in the past. There are many ways to mount curtains. I typically keep it simple and use Eyelet style and Goblet style hung directly on the rod. This combination is from Ikea. It does not require hanging rings.
Locate the desired position of your curtain rod brackets. Allow for 6-8 inches from the outside edge of the window trim. Use a pencil and mark the screw holes. Insert screw anchors for drywall. Use a stud finder for heavier curtains/rods to locate wall studs (I normally don't find studs and my curtains have hung well just using screw anchors). Then, mount the brackets and hang the curtains.
4. Steam The Curtains
The final step for a designer-style curtain is to steam your curtains. I always steam (or flat iron before hanging using the proper setting) after hanging. This will give you a crisp magazine quality. The same concept applies as wearing a nice shirt. You don't want an unpresentable and wrinkly shirt, do you? Trust me, this makes all the difference!
