13 Tips For A Scandinavian Inspired Christmas:
1. Baskets Keep You Organized
My Top Basket Pick:
Baskets are excellent for the winter months. Store your favorite throws, or some fresh (or faux) greens for A Scandinavian mountain lodge mood. They are great for holding extra throws in this cozy time of year. This one is perfect for under $30!
2. Use Firewood (Even Without A Fireplace)
Scandinavian Style Firewood Holder:
Nordic homes are surrounded by nature and design is dictated by what is transforming outside during the season. Wood, pinecones, moss, fresh trimmings, and other natural materials should surround you. Group your collections. Lay your logs on a log holder, even if you don't have a fireplace.
3. Bring The Forest Inside
Tabletop Trees:
Simple tabletop trees are wonderful for an modern Christmas feel. They signify winter and the holiday season but don't scream Christmas. Consider placing them in vessels or small planters for an elevated feel.
4. Lighting Is Key
Spending more time at home makes us look at lighting more closely. When we look to our inspirational sources (Retail stores, Insta, Pinterest, blogs) we see magical spaces that might be a bit intimidating. The key is lighting. Nordic homes receive little daylight in the winter months good artificial lighting is important. Have multiple lamps, good light bulbs, and layer some candles.
5. Consider Minimal Art
Get The Look:
Art is a fantastic way to set the stage this season. Neutral paintings, winter photos, and wood framed art promotes a winter Scandinavian style. I love this simple deer canvas. It is minimal and quite versatile throughout the winter months.
6. The Scandinavian Tree
Best Artificial Trees Under $250:
Scandinavian Christmas trees are simple and magical. Many times you will see them with minimal ornaments, soft neutrals, and are often flocked. Quality is everything here! If you go with a faux tree then you must get one that looks real. Consider a noble fir, balsam fir, or spruce tree.
7. Mixed Metals
Metals are important in Scandinavian interiors. The same carries into this season's material palette. Silver and gold looks are very common during Christmas. But, consider a modern blend with metals such as blackened steel and brass. Would you be interesting in these Casa Refined Candle Holders? Let me know in the comments below!
8. Less Is More
Seriously, less is more. You want a blank canvas for your work to stand out. Let your greens glisten against blank backdrops. Allow your candles to tell a story. Don't be afraid to put away some of your normal decor to allow for this seasons trimmings. Allow your home to breathe.
9. Embrace Your Inner DIY
10. Use Neutral Woods
Wishbone Chairs:
Softwoods are key elements for Scandinavian design. This wishbone chair is the perfect example. The hand-woven paper cord compliments the wood really well. You can also group various woods to create and earthy feel.
11. Scandinavian Ornaments
Ornaments are very important for a Scandinavian Christmas. Less is more here too. Scale back your color theme. Use geometric ornaments that spark curiosity. Invest is some candlesticks lights for your tree. Allow branches to breathe. Try making your own ornaments.
12. Simple Gift Wrapping
Gift Wrap Essentials:
Gift wrapping is often overlooked but it shouldn't! Your gift wrapping should be cohesive with your season's palette. You don't need to be good at wrapping. Think of your gifts as hand-crafted packages. Solid color paper, stripes, and simple ribbon (or twine) will take you a long way. Clip some fresh greens to make gifts extra special.
13. Use Soft Textiles
Faux Sheepskin (Amazon's Choice):
Winter in Scandinavia is quite cold. This requires the use for soft textures. Think wool, (vegan) hides and sheepskin, plush, and other soft textiles. You can easily throw a sheepskin on a chair or coffee table for a lived in feel. Think of the areas you spend more time in and the moments you are trying to create.
I hoped these ideas help you tell your Christmas story. Your home will serve as a retreat this season, so make it special. I'd love to see your Holiday style this season! Follow and Tag me on Instagram @casa_refined
