It can be hectic and pricey keeping up with fresh trends sometimes. I still have some dark wood furniture, such as my sideboard, in my home. It seems this style and color has phased away but I am looking to keep it a while longer. This piece lives in my dining room and serves as a main entry console. Take a look at these tips to help you style your sideboard or buffet with a fresh update.

1. MIX IN HANDCRAFTED MATERIALS

2. USE CONTRASTING TONES
If you have a dark sideboard like this, consider adding contrast with light toned objects or wood. This canvas painting almost blends with the white wall to highlight the classic furniture. The natural finish of the frame works well.
3. ADD SOME GREENERY
Some fresh greenery never hurts. Unfortunately, this space receives little daylight and a high quality faux arrangement does the trick. What are your thoughts on the vase? Consider a matte vase with fresh greens.
4. AVOID TOO MANY SMALL ITEMS
Small collectibles, or little pieces, can be great in a set. Try to limit the number of small items because they throw off the scale of the composition and look wonky. Too much can make the sideboard look cluttered.

It seems sideboard hutches are not as common in current design. They often make pieces too large and bulky. Consider taking it down and test the flow of the room. If you have sexy-looking hutch then keep it!
6. USE MINIMAL ART
A clean wall may bring peace to the room bring your furniture forward. You have already invested in your peice so why not showcase its museum-like beauty. A simple mirror, painting, or contour drawing will keep it minal.
7. KEEP IT ORGANIC
What do I mean by organic? Use elements made of natural materials or reference them. This is a simple way to bring in texture to your piece. Items like moss balls, dry plant stems, or a wooden tray work to create an organic vibe. This material connection to nature can make your space more calm.
8. ADD SOME FRUIT
Last but not least, let style meet function. An apple a day keeps the doctor away. Seriously though, some fresh fruit in a bowl adds an inviting factor. Interact with your furniture, don't just decorate it. This can be a neat way of clearing some kitchen counter space too!
