Take a step back and ask yourself: why do we make wreaths? Wreaths are typically circular, which signals a cycle. They are adorned with the season's findings, being real or faux materials. At the same time wreaths are unique and push creativity.
This holiday season I find it more important to practice creativity. Many people say they are not artistic, or creative, but it is something you practice. According to many sources, including Forbes, creativity is great for our overall health. Engaging in creative activities "improves brain function, mental health, and physical health" (Forbes).
Making a wreath is the perfect activity. You seriously, can't go wrong with it. This year I am keeping things minimal while celebrating the richness of the winter season. This wreath cost me about $10, seriously. I only bought a metal ring and used some branches I had lying around. You can even borrow some from your outdoor landscape. Let's get started!

Step 1: Gather Your Materials
- wreath hoop
- spray paint (optional for hoop color)
- floral wire, or twist ties
- stems or greens
- ribbon
Step 2: Assemble Sticks
Begin by laying out the sticks. I like to start assembling with the larger sticks and then layer on the smaller ones. Wrap around to hoop secure in place. Use floral wire, or twist ties, for extra support.
Step 3: Layer The Greens
Begin layering the greens, on at a time. Start with the outermost branches. Work your way in and use floral wire to secure. Use the branches to cover the wire.
Step 4: Add Ornamental Picks
You can take your wreath further and add ornaments and flowers
Step 5: Finish With Simple Ribbon
Top your wreath off with a simple bow, anywhere you want it. You can even hang the wreath with it too! TIP: Asymmetrical wreaths can be hung by tying a knot a the top with ribbon.
I hope you have enjoyed making this wreath (or at least watch me do it). Let me know how it turns out in the comments below! Feel free to share with me on Instagram: casa_refined
