Thrifting seems to be a growing trend, as it should be. With so many items out there, many of us are turning our focus to mid-century modern home decor. You might have read my post on Things To Thrift For in 2021, but today we are turning our focus to mid century modern decor.
Like most thrifters, I make my rounds to Goodwill (and other thrift stores) a couple times per week. It's hard to stay away! That being said, not every visit is a treasure find. Sometimes it requires a couple misses before getting a hit. For the last couple of years I have turned my lens to mid-century decor and want to share some tricks to score big!

Check out my YouTube video (and channel) for lots of ideas on how to score sweet mid-century pieces at the thrift store + a short haul!
The furniture section is the area to head to. A good piece here goes fast so you want to make sure you get first dibs. Look for coffee tables, accent chairs, dining tables, and bookshelves. Some pieces might need a little love, including refinishing or even painting. Mid-century furniture is often simplified, has clean lines and often low.
The dinnerware section is often a hit or miss. Look for sets of drinkware and dinnerware because you can often find trendy pieces on a budget. I found this pedestal bowl that we're seeing everywhere - just $3!
Brass is surely having a moment these days. Brass candlesticks are a great way to mix metals without flipping the house around. Embrace the patina on the brass because it adds character and layers intentionality to your space.
Thrift stores often have beautiful pottery at a fraction of the price from first-hand stores. Consider painting them if you're not satisfied with the color.
You cannot leave the thrift store without stopping at the wooden object section. You can find bowls, trays, and even charcuterie boards!
TIP: Don't be afraid to sand and refinish objects to make them work for your desired color palette.
