Looking for casual dining room ideas? Check out these two simple dining spaces and vote for your favorite vignette!
I'm back with another round of Room Refined, where I share two vignettes and you vote for your favorite. Today's focus is the dining room. The dining room (whether used formally or casually) is a space for gathering, sharing conversation, and eating a yummy meal! I often get asked how to style a casual dining room that is both comfortable and chic - let's see these two examples:

Which is your favorite vignette?
Although I love these two casual dining room ideas, I favor vignette 2. It leans more mid century modern and has a timeless quality to it. It feels a bit more upscale than the vignette 1. That chandelier is so dreamy too!
DESIGN REVIEW: A CLOSER LOOK
Vignette 1 leans into a modern contemporary style that feels causal but still streamlined. If you are a fan of Studio McGee then, you will love some of these accents. The upholstered chairs can help soften a space, especially if you have a lot of metal, stone, cement, tile, or wood in the room. These are super affordable and look like something you'd get from Restoration Hardware. A simple dining table like this adds a modern element but still feels casual with the 'raw wood' look. Don't be afraid to use medium plant pots on top of the table. Their larger scale gives the looks of high-end pottery but on a budget.
I always suggest having different lighting types in a room. Of course, we need a chandelier in a dining room, but consider using a pair of table lamps or sconces above the sideboard. These brass ones are plug-in! No electrician is needed.
This modern black dining table has a heavy profile. The mid century chairs help balance the visual weight but still feel cohesive with the black leather seating. Can we talk about that credenza!? It's heavenly and sure to a room feel designer. Rugs can be controversial for dining spaces but a dark one can be a good solution to keep them 'look clean.'
Overall this space is pretty neutral. The finishes are consistent. Something like this allows you to add moments of color when needed. In this case, some colored glassware and dried florals will suffice. You can also add wall art or colored dinnerware!
