Maybe it's just me but I feel like the bathroom is a nice escape from the busy world. You go in, take care of what needs to be taken care of, and get back out there. Since we all spend a decent amount of time in there each day, why not make it a beautiful experience?
I just love the feeling of walking into a hotel room bathroom for the first time. Everything is clean, only the essentials are out, and the vibe is very minimal. As I turn to my own bathroom, I crave for a similar experience. Things are nicely put away, the color palate feels soothing, and there is an feeling of luxury. Today I am sharing 7 tips for achieving a minimalist feeling bathroom that feels luxurious.

1. Empty Out The Bathroom
Of course, I mean empty out all the feasible items. This will allow you to assess what is no longer needed, has to be replaced, and determine what organization might be helpful. Do we really need all those old moisturizers we're never going to use? How about the stacks of hotel samples? I am VERY guilty of accumulating those samples. I bring them home thinking I'll use them but never do.
While we're at it let's give clean the bathroom a deep clean. It never hurts.
2. Determine New Storage Solutions
I'm not the biggest organizer, but find it useful in the bathroom. It's much easier keeping things tidy when everything has a designated place. Storage bins, baskets, and containers have proven successful in my bathrooms.
TIME-SAVING TIP: have a designated bin for the daily routine items: moisturizer, deodorant, toner, eye and night cream, hair product, etc. This has made my life much easier! You can easily pull it out and place it on the counter without having to take each item out. Here are few aesthetic organizing options:

3. Refine The Style of Hardware
Switching out the hardware can be a simple way to achieve a minimal feel. Things like towel holders, hangers, and tissue holders can make a noticeable difference. This might take a little bit of work (but not too much). I used to do this even when I was renting (and would switch things back after).
Look for less ornamental styles that pair well with the other fixtures in the room. I often mix metals, like aged brass, bronze, and blackened steel. Black and chrome (or nickel) are always a good mix. Here are a few ones I'm in love with:

4. Keep Surfaces Clear
This might be an obvious one but very worth noting. The sink area in particular tends to be the resting spot for everything - and it makes sense. Putting things away is essential for a minimalist bathroom. I make it my goal to put everything away at the end of the day. We don't need to wake up to a mess.
If you have a significant other who constantly leaves things out, get an aesthetic basket for them to throw things into at the very least. It doesn't need to be organized as long as things don't pile up on the counter.
5. Limit To One Decorative Accent: A Stool?
Keeping things simple is key for a minimalist bathroom. That means limiting to one candle, one arrangement, or one wall art piece. If the space allows, a stool can look nice beside a shower or tub. It can make a minimal space feel more intentional, especially in the vast emptiness. I often see them styled with a candle or aroma solution.
Here are some stools worth taking a peek at:
6. Use A Solid Color Shower Curtain
If you have a shower curtain, it might be worth getting a new one that is a solid color. A curtain takes up a lot of visual real estate and minimalist bathroom should not feel overwhelming with pattern.
SECRET TIP: Use an extra-wide grommet curtain (or two) and hand them as high as you can. This will create a luxurious feeling. I have two tension rods. One is for the grommet curtains and the other is for the plastic liner.

7. Paint The Walls (Maybe)
Painting walls is not my favorite activity. But it sometimes makes the largest impact. A white or neutral bathroom works well for creating a minimal feel but is not the only answer. You can achieve a minimalist feeling with darker paint color, floor-to-ceiling tile, or even some lime wash paint like in my bath. Select a color that complements the existing material palette. Take note of the fixtures, cabinet color, and flooring to inform the color selection.
I lime washed my bathroom using Sydney Harbor Interno Lime Wash in the color 'Mountain Ash'. You can watch the makeover video here.
