Minimalism and modernism certainly pairs well together. Sterile interiors might come to mind when you think of the two together, but it doesn't have to be! In the age of Transitional design, we can combine them in a way that still feels comfortable.
Simple silhouettes, neutral tones, and visual textures is what you will get with these DIYs. Check out my YouTube video below to see how you can make them!

Watch the YouTube video above, but here is the summary:
1. Modern Wall Relief Art
Relief artwork has been around for centuries. In more modern times, we are seeing modern interpretation of the relief technique. Of course original artwork can be expensive. Luckly, we can make our own and get the look for a few dollars!
Would I do something different? I might have added plaster over the cardboard to give it more of an "artistic" look!
Here are the Cliff Notes on what I did:
- Reuse and old art frame (no glass needed)
- Use cardboard to create layers (ranging between 2 - 6)
- painted the cardboard using flat sheen spray paint
2. Cement Candle Holders
Candlesticks are timeless! There is nothing like cement and wood together. These taper candleholders are actually quite simple to make! Check out the video to see the whole process!
3. Insane Cabinet Transformation
I don't know about you buy my local thrift stores are packed with cabinets. Often times, they're those orange ones from the 90s. I got this one for $1.50!! It was basically trashed but I got my hands on it!
Here are the Cliff Notes on what I did:
- Removed the glass doors (one broke ) and hardware
- Lightly sanded down the cabinet and shelves
- painted the interior, shelves, and backing black
- Stained the exterior in Dark Ebony (over the existing finish)
- Topcoat with Polyacrylic
