Cheap home decor doesn't need to look cheap!
Looking back, I've been doing Dollar Tree decor DIYs since grade school. It wasn't until recently I challenged myself to come up with 3 DIYs that are easy to make, inspired by mid-century modern styles, and NOT tacky. #sorrynotsorry
Rather than write out every instruction, I think it will be helpful to explain via video! Let me know what you think or if you have any questions!

1. Modern Black Pedestal Bowl
Chances are you've seen a similar bowl like this, but costs way more than $2! All you need is a candle holder, terrarium bowl, and some black spray paint.
- Glue the bowl and candle holder using some E6000 or any gel super glue from the dollar store.
- Give two coats of spray paint and let dry fully. I recommend this for decor purposes and not for serving food.
2. Vintage Art + Frame
If you're like me, you've been eyeing some nice vintage art throughout our favorite interior designer's pages. Luckly, we can create our own for just about $3! All you need is the 8x10 canvas panel, this gold frame, and this gold frame too.
- Paint your canvas. Watch my video above on how I painted this artwork. But honestly, you can paint whatever you want!
- Paint the two frames black, yes black, using acrylic paint. Let dry for just A COUPLE MINUTES. Lightly remove some of the paint with a paper towel. Let remaining paint dry fully.
- Insert the artwork into the smaller frame and stack on top of the larger frame. Glue the frames together using E6000 or similar. This will make the frame appear thicker (and more high end).
- Paint the frames: apply some Rub 'n Buff Gold Leaf to blend the two frames together. Let some of the black paint show through. It will add dimension and create a vintage feel.
3. Modern Vase
This vase totally gives me CB2 vibes. In the video paint the dowels first but I would recommend painting last. You will need is 5 packets of these wooden dowels and this cylinder vase.
I hope you found these ideas useful. Share with me your DIYs on my Insta @casa_refined. Let me know down below if you want to see more ideas!
